It is important to know what conditions are safe for your Boca Grande kayaking adventure. In late June our rainy season begins. When the afternoon sea breezes kick in, watch out for thunderstorms from the east that follow. In the winter months, cold fronts bring potentially strong winds. Watch for strong tides the few days before and after a full or new moon. It is strongly advised to avoid paddling through Boca Grande Pass on the south end of the island. Even the most advanced kayaker is recommended to take a different route. It is wise to stay in the mangrove trails when winds are exceeding ten miles an hour. Work up wind when you are fresh, and let the breeze help you on your return.
